HEALTHY BREATHING

A HEALTHY BREATH

Below is an easy way to remember how to breathe in a healthy manner.  We all breathe in a unique way, our breath pattern is as unique as our thumbprint and there is always room for improvement. Gently guiding the breath back a free flowing breath whereby it serves all systems of the body will help you feel more energised, grounded and present.

BREATHE

Belly expands on the inhale

Ribs softly expand in an East and West direction

Effortless elevation in upper chest. Soft easy movement.

Attention should be on the breath. Notice where your breath moves in your body.

Tall. Posture should be tall and easy if sitting and best to sit

Holding? Look out for breath holding, the breath should be full and effortless with a little pause between the inhale and exhale.

Exhale. Let the air out slowly through the nose or mouth. Belly falls, ribs and chest return to centre. Awareness should be retained on both inhale and exhale.

BREATHING PRACTICE:

RATIO Allow the exhale to be a little longer than the inhale. This will help stimulate the rest and digest part of the nervous system.

THINK 4:6 ratio (or try 3:5 for beginners):

Breathe In for a count of 1,2,3,4

Breathe Out for a count of 1,2,3,4,5,6

Breathe In for a count of 1,2,3,4

Breathe Out for a count of 1,2,3,4,5,6
